住宅価格については、様々な誤解がある。「世界経済の急速な発展が土地の希少価値を高め、分譲住宅や賃貸住宅の価格が大幅に値上がりする」。世界中の多くの人々が、こう勘違いしているようだ。

　この誤解に基づく「投資価値」によって、人々は住宅を購入する。これが、現在の経済危機を引き起こした世界的な不動産バブルへとつながった。

　また、同じ誤解によって、経済が現在の危機から脱した後、住宅価格が再び著しく上昇する可能性もある。実際、市場が低迷している今のうちに住宅を購入しておこうと、既に食指を動かし始めている人もいるようだ。

　しかし、人々が住む土地が本当に足りなくなることはない。
